DEMON OF DEMOCRACY IN PAKISTAN

DEMON OF DEMOCRACY IN PAKISTAN

It is not the question of a democratic nation, rather it is the question of Democracy. We see a complete nation along with all the complete national elements. There is an Ideology, there is an economic set up, there is a legislative and administrative system (this is another thing that these are being mishandled) and in short there is Freedom. All these show a picture of national elements, the thing which I see is the nation, national elements but the thing which I do not see is the Base of our Nation… I have heard by many leaders of my country that we are living in a democratic state. If so, then where is the democracy? I have found each and everything that makes a nation Complete but I have not yet seen the spirit of democracy. Politicians boast that we are still a democratic nation but I think the thing which is necessary for being a democratic nation is the ‘freedom of expression’ and second to it is ‘the freedom of selecting the rulers to rule us’.

If I am not wrong Democracy itself is a name of a GOVERNMENT BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE , but what I saw after electing Mr. Zardari , the definition of democracy has been changed to, A PROBLEM OF THE PEOPLE BY THE PEOPLE FOR THE PEOPLE. It is also possible that my critics would be having their own stance which may be just that it were the People who elected, who voted but what I have to say is that I agree that PPP (Pakistan Peoples Party) got a considerable amount of votes (which are sympathetic or not, this is another debate) but what about the people who did not vote for any of the political party due to lack of confidence… However, if PPP got the favor of 40,000 citizens (for instance) what about the remaining others? I mean it was just 40,000 people out of 16 crore population… Is it JUST that 40,000 people select a government to govern the future of Pakistan with a population of 16 crore? One main reason is the lack of confidence among the citizens for the politicians which is why they hesitate to vote. Now when we have elected a Government of our choice we are watching the aftershocks of our selection.

For a stable democratic state there should be equality for the citizens at every level so that the independent citizens are capable to elect the government which they want and think better if not best to handle their future. The case here in Pakistan is totally opposite, that is , people themselves are dependent at every level due to the ignorance of the ministers as well as the citizens. Even majority of people are unaware of their basic rights as being citizens of a democratic state. In this ‘so called’ democratic state, where government is selected by people, every passing day we are hearing news of suicide commitments of not only one or two individuals but the whole families just because they have nothing to eat, to survive and to raise themselves. According to me , as per the definition of democracy, where government is chosen by the people for the people , the main flaw is at least at least people or the citizens should be ‘ Independent ‘ if people are not themselves independent at individual level how come they can be able to elect people for governing the whole nation? If people can’t even govern their future or at least secure it , I do not think that they do have right to choose the future for the whole nation. I would call this democracy as not the democracy only but a DEMON OF DEMOCRACY which is engulfing and encroaching citizens’ rights of living & expressing their feelings. For a country like ours democracy cannot be flourished or completely implemented unless we being the people/citizens become completely independent ( at least financially if not completely ) which means we have at least authority on our lives … we do not become too much helpless  to think about destroying ourselves. Harsh… yet true because reality is always harsh, but not for those who seriously want to rule their lives according to their own will.
