training to tryout for swimteam. HELP!?
okay. i really want to join a swim team next fall. a year round swim team at the YMCA.
i haven’t swam in forever and i don’t know how my technique is.
what should i do to train for swimming?
i would take a summer classes but the classes are when i am busy. I have a pool at my aunt’s house(Who lives next door, im sure she will let me swim there) so i can train there but what should i work on?
what strokes? what techniques?
working on timing. how fast should i swim?
i want to work on everything so i can try out for swim team and make it. thanks!
btw i am 14 turning 15 this summer. but im small and look really young. people say i can pass as 12/13.
thanks
You should contact the coach of the YMCA swim team now and ask about the try out process. Are there minimum times? How competent do you need to be in each of the four strokes? Our YMCA doesn’t make cuts. There are no tryouts. As long as a swimmer can make it one length of the pool, they can join the team. But each Y sets its own policies, so you need to check locally.
You will swim as a 15 year old (senior division) in the fall. It doesn’t matter what age you could “pass” for; the Y will use your birth date to determine your age group.
To practice over the summer, it’s OK to swim in a home pool, but you will not get the best results unless you go to a pool with lap lanes, 25 yards or meters. If you can, join the Y now so you can use lap lanes when you have time. If you join the team, you will also have to join the Y anyway.
