How do I create a recovery disc or files for Windows XP with a netbook?
I need to find out how to make my recovery discs for my netbook. My laptop has Vista wth the recovery disc creator, but where is it for Windows XP?
You can make a copy of your recovery partition or if you haven’t got one your windows partition instead.
Windows: http://bit.ly/12P2Dc
Recovery: http://bit.ly/msWIE
To access computer management to view your partitions:
In Vista and Windows 7 right click Computer and choose manage.
In XP enter “compmgmgt.msc” into the Run dialog box then choose disk management.
If you’re lucky you will see a recovery partition along with the main (C:) partition. Search your manufacturer’s website for instructions on how to to a recovery. On my netbook it’s F11 on boot up but it varies for different computers.
Or make your own XP disk. Look here – Start> My Computer> (C:)> Windows> i386
If you have an i386 folder you can create your owndisc using http://www.nliteos.com/ – probably version 1.4.6 for you.
Download and install nlite and run it. Click Next on the first screen then click Browse and select the i386 folder. Click Next until you get to the Task selection screen. Click Bootable ISO and then Next. Select Burn Image from the first drop down menu. Place a blank CD in your optical drive and click Burn.
When it’s finished you’ll have a working Windows XP installation disc.
