Two Moons Mars

Has anybody seen two moons on aug 27th? (mars was to appear as a moon on that day 12.30 am IST)?

I had received an email which said that the planet mars would be at a distance of 34.65 million miles from the earth on that day, and due to the sunlight falling on that planet, it would appear like a moon to us at 12.30 am., on august 27. the next time this will happen is in 2287 a.d. none of us alive today will ever be able to see this again.

Mars was actually close to being opposite the Earth, behind the sun that day. It was nearly impossible to see it, period. The only times you could even attempt to see it was at sunset, and sunrise that day. And even then, you really had to look for it, and you must have a clear view of either the western of eastern sky, depending on whether you viewed it at sunrise or sunset. It was not even visible at 12:30 because the sun had already set, and Mars went with it. The closest noticeable planet at that time would be Jupiter, not Mars, and Jupiter showed up at about the size of a star.

Mars will never show up as the size of the moon. The closest Mars came was in 2003, and it won’t be that close for about another 300 years or so. But it still didn’t show up even close to the size of the moon.

Sorry, but that email was a total and complete hoax. It has been circulating for a couple of years now. I got it myself. I started another chain letter saying that it WASN’T going to happen… I guess you didn’t get it.
