Oklahoma, LSU, USC, Ohio State or Hawaii?? Who is better?
Just to get everyone going, state your cases. Should a team from a conference w/out a championship game be given the same consideration as a team that played in one (i.e… Ohio State-USC VS Oklahoma-LSU-Hawaii) ? That would also mean that one team will have played an extra game. Is 11-1(OSU) the same as 11-2(LSU-OU), or 12-0 (Hawaii) Is it fair for certain teams to play 11 games and others to play 12? What about an undefeated team from a mid-major conference (Hawaii-Boise State)? I believe that a true 16 team playoff is the only solution. As for the most dominant conference… The final bowl records per conference will show us that, no need to argue. Any other ideas and opinions are welcome….
Pure assumptions (what every answer has been about this subject): I would put Oklahoma vs Georgia/USC. As the teams that I think are the best all around teams.
Who I think should be in the National Championship after this crazy year: Hawaii (zero losses) vs OSU/Kansas (only 1 loss teams). I would put OSU over Kansas because Kansas wasn’t their division’s conference champ. Oh and if you think your conference championship hurt you….sorry, that’s your conference’s fault. The NCAA doesn’t say you have to have one…you do…and it’s for the money.
What I think should happen/NEEDS to happen: There needs to be a 16 team playoff (all the conference champions in D1 football and the rest made up by the BCS calculation of the next highest ranked). Only then will we have a true National Champion. That’s on the field competition and only by that will we really know who is the best team in the country each year and not base everything on assumptions and past history.
If anything was proven this year, it’s that ALL of the top teams are susceptible to a lose. Be prepared for some upsets regarding the bowl games too.
