Ohio State Fair Choir

Can you recover if you think your voice is destroyed?

I wasn’t an amazing singer, I would have needed voice training and I just want to be a music teacher for both band and choir. Back in August, I was the All-Ohio State Fair Band. I lost my voice completely (from yelling) and got it back completely 2 weeks later. I think now my voice is completely destroyed. I was a soprano and now second space a comes out “screechy” in my “head” voice. (This is not the voice in my head, for those that don’t know, this is the higher pitch a girl has like a guys falsetto, but it’s more comfortable for girls) If it helps, my age is 18.

I’ve lost my voice thousands of times from yelling at football games, strep throat, etc, but I could still sing. You’re voice also changes throughout your life. When I was 12-14 I was an alto. All through high school I was a first soprano, but now I’m 22 and back to an alto because I just can’t reach those high notes anymore. So no, I don’t believe you’re voice can be destroyed.
