My 5 year old is having problems listening in his kinder class and @ the YMCA afterschool daycare?
They are telling me he isnt listening. He gets told to not to do this, and then he does it. He wants to do whatever he wants when he wants.
We displicne at home no tv, sit in room for 2 hours, throw away his toys. I just don’t know what we are doing wrong? how can i make my child listen and make good choices at school???
Maybe he is acting out for attention…your discipline techniques seem to be leaving him without any attention. Don’t without attention and affection, but a big part of your discipline should include conversation and training. Ask your son to do little things, and always praise him when he listens and does what he is supposed to. Praise, praise, praise! 2 hours is way too long for a time out for a 5 year old. 5 – 10 minutes is enough. You could tell your child that you are coming to his classroom to watch and see how he behaves…and actually go. At age five, you have to teach him what it means to “listen” It doesn’t actually mean “listen”…it means think about what the teacher says and then do it right then. Good luck!
