Instead, her focus is set firmly on the future, and she has big plans for where life will bring her next. The first is turning from a music artist into a music artist/actress. She dipped her toes into the acting scene on March 1, when she guest starred on the hit CBS television comedy How I Met Your Mother. In an interview with The Boot, she revealed that her character on the show is a lot meaner than Carrie is in real life, and she also revealed that her acting ability surprised the rest of the cast. Her character, Tiffany, is a pharmaceutical sales rep as well as the character Ted’s love interest.
Underwood will need every lesson she has learned on the show as she plunges onto the set of Soul Surfer. The film will mark her big screen debut, and she will have quite the cast with her to do so. In the film, Underwood plays a church youth leader, and the movie is being shown in Hawaii, according to E! Online. The film is about the real-life story of Bethany Hamilton, a teenage surfer who fought to get back on the waves after losing her arm in a shark attack. The film will also star Anna Sophia Robb, Helen Hunt, Dennis Quaid, Lorraine Nicholson and Sean Brosnan. The film could open as early as the summer of 2010.
The biggest news in Underwood’s life, though, is her recent engagement to hockey star Mike Fisher of the Ottawa Senators. They have yet to set a date (at least, they aren’t saying if they have), but Underwood is already planning their future together. According to The Boot, Underwood already knows that the first few years of their marriage will mean lots of travel for both of them, but that doesn’t mean children aren’t in the plans. She said, “Mike is amazing with children. He’s so going to be a better parent! I’m not bad with them, but I didn’t grow up around children, and he had brothers and sisters his age.”
Underwood heads back to a familiar place—the stage—on March 11, when she kicks off her tour in Reading, Pa. The dates will be supporting her latest release, 2009’s Play On, which topped the charts thanks to singles like “Cowboy Casanova” and “Temporary Home.” The tour will also feature country favorite Craig Morgan (known for hits like “Little Bit of Life” and “Bonfire”) as an opener.
